Wellbeing

At the library, we understand that your wellbeing is essential to your academic success. That’s why we’ve created this space with resources to promote your physical and mental wellbeing, and to help you keep stress at bay whilst you study. Take a look at the Wellbeing and Health guide we’ve put together in collaboration with Healthy Campus.

Boost your performance with meditation. Listen to these meditations before you start your study session and whenever you need a short break. They have been designed and recorded by Eusebio Pérez Infantes specifically for this purpose:

Many libraries have set up relaxation areas so you can take a break whenever you need to. There you’ll find newspapers and magazines, mandalas to colour in, crosswords, and more. You can find them at:

  • Communication Library: individual quiet spaces, Comic Book Area
  • and the Cinema Area.
  • Education Library: informal reading area and chess corner.
  • Law Library.
  • Humanities Library: in the Central Hall and the Art Laboratory
  • Psychology Library

Studies show that a walk in green spaces reduces anxiety, boosts the immune system and promotes mental health.

Botanical trails (created by staff from the Environment Unit): these can be used interactively by clicking on the name of the species, or they can be printed out to take with you. They include walks through the gardens of the Rectorate, the Reina Mercedes Campus, the Ramón y Cajal Campus, the Health Centres Campus, ETSI, the International Centre and the Mexican and Brazilian Pavilions, and the Rector A. Machado Library.

As the condition of the plants varies throughout the year, the trails will be adapted to highlight particular aspects of the flora that can be enjoyed at different times of the year.

Our ‘Reading for Mental Wellbeing’ section offers resources to help you understand and improve your emotional health through reading. You’ll find suggestions for understanding and managing various common feelings and experiences (such as anger, low self-esteem or social anxiety) and for coping with difficult times (such as bereavement or stressful situations).

All titles are available for loan at various local libraries, and their specific location can be found via the Fama catalogue. You can view the full list here:
